​Object State considers the agency of objects in the ongoing development of both our physical and psychological constructs of the world. How do we see the world both near and far and how does what is near affect what is far? How do mundane or superfluous tasks, like shopping for objects to adorn and cover our bodies or shopping to furnish and accessorize our homes, inform our view of the world?
 
This domestic cycle of consumption and commodification permeates our culture, exoticizing, vilifying, and anthropomorphizing when advantageous. But ‘N’ature is not prohibitively distant or unavailable, only to be found within the bounds of strictly managed national parks or places that are dangerous or foreign. Nature is all around, both big and small, familiar and strange, common and rare, charismatic and frightening. Why is a Starling denied the wonder afforded to a Tiger? Why have we been conditioned to assign worth based on our limited knowledge of interaction and our understanding of narrative and personhood among non-human beings? What awareness do we hold of the ways we psychologically contort and rationalize our thoughts to transform living beings into objects, so that those objects may be collected and conquered, abused and admired, commodified for consumption?
 
Can we recondition? Or will the tangible permanent triumph over the elusive ephemeral?
